Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesA FutureB
The Seahawks answered their biggest question with McCarthy. Grade: B.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Seahawks committed. J.J. McCarthy is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.

Hopper has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Paul. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 J.J. McCarthy
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center, though they paid up to get him.
Pick60 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske at slot 60 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick62 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
Nothing to complain about; Kingsley Suamataia went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick78 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
A quiet steal in pick 78: Patrick Paul for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick81 Rnd3 Marshawn Kneeland
The board had cheaper options than Marshawn Kneeland at pick No. 81, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick117 Rnd4 Ty'Ron Hopper
Value said wait; Ty'Ron Hopper in Round 4, Pick 17 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick127 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
A reach for Tommy Eichenberg in the 127th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick151 Rnd5 Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe at No. 151 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick191 Rnd6 Keith Randolph Jr.
Keith Randolph Jr. at the Round 6 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick235 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. is a better player than the 235th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
