Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesC+ FutureA+
More right than wrong for the Steelers, and a B to prove it.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Steelers would have aced it. Devin Leary at pick No. 238 is 53 spots clear of where he belonged.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Brian Robinson pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick51 Rnd2 Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske in pick No. 51 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick67 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at slot 67 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick84 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in No. 84; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick120 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cedric Gray. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick121 Rnd4 Renardo Green
The board had Renardo Green higher than the Round 4 slot, and the safety fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick197 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
No drama and no debate, Jaylan Ford went about where he belonged in pick 197. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick238 Rnd7 Devin Leary
Devin Leary in Round 7, Pick 18 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
