Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

FutureB-
The Patriots bled value on every deal, hence the D+. Some picks age like wine; Princewill Umanmielen at pick 211 will need to, sitting 48 spots clear of his grade.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
The Taaffe pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick30
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In No. 30 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick93
Rnd3
Michael Taaffe
Michael Taaffe in the 93rd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick118
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
Monroe Freeling at pick 118 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick130
Rnd4
Bray Hubbard
Bray Hubbard in slot 130 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick169
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 169, where Jacob Rodriguez graded well above the range. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick171
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
No edge and no loss on Aamil Wagner in the 171st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick211
Rnd6
Princewill Umanmielen
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Princewill Umanmielen well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick216
Rnd7
Daevin Hobbs
They reached a country mile for Daevin Hobbs at slot 216, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick244
Rnd7
Shamar Easter
A slide stopped in the 244th overall pick, with Shamar Easter worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
