Draft Grade — Bills

FutureC
The Bills won the night they stopped Watts from sliding. Grade: B. It is a puzzling start. The Bills had linebacker, offensive lineman and other spots to solve and reached instead for Azareye'h Thomas, a cornerback, at the 77th pick. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On value alone, Watts makes the weekend a net positive. They are betting Hairston proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Mykel Williams
A tidy bit of business in No. 30, where Mykel Williams graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick56
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
They liked Maxwell Hairston enough to skip the value, taking him in the 56th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick62
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Steal is underselling it; Xavier Watts at pick No. 62 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick76
Rnd3
Deone Walker
A premium they did not need to pay, Deone Walker a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick77
Rnd3
Azareye'h Thomas
A want over a need in pick 77: Azareye'h Thomas adds a cornerback while linebacker, offensive lineman and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick106
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer in Round 4, Pick 4 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick177
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick239
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at pick 239 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
