PPPK68 DRAFTING FOR THESteelers

Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
D+

FutureC
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Steelers to a D+. The Steelers did not so much draft Jamaree Caldwell as overpay for him, 75 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Too much went sideways, and the D+ is the honest tally.
Tuten at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III in the Round 1 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick26
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In the 26th pick they get a true top target at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick57
Rnd2
Azareye'h Thomas
No drama and no debate, Azareye'h Thomas went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 25. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick83
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Omarr Norman-Lott in No. 83. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick109
Rnd4
Luke Kandra
No edge and no loss on Luke Kandra in slot 109; it is a wash and a sensible one. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick121
Rnd4
TreVeyon Henderson
Taking TreVeyon Henderson in the 121st overall pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick161
Rnd5
Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa in the 161st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jamaree Caldwell
They reached into another round for Jamaree Caldwell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick229
Rnd7
Bhayshul Tuten
Steal is underselling it; Bhayshul Tuten at No. 229 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick245
Rnd7
Shilo Sanders
They liked Shilo Sanders enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 7 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
