Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureA+
A solid, sensible weekend for the Bears: B+.

The Bears put a flag in the ground for Jalen Travis, 48 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

That is a tight end worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Nick Emmanwori
In slot 25 they get a downhill hitter at safety. More want than need.
Pick39 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant is a better player than Round 2, Pick 7 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick58 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in the 58th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick72 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Fair-plus on Quinshon Judkins, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick89 Rnd3 Tai Felton
Tai Felton in the 89th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick148 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A wild overpay on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the Round 5 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick233 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey at No. 233 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick240 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
They liked Ty Hamilton enough to skip the value, taking him in the 240th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jalen Travis
Jalen Travis at pick No. 241 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
