FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Chargers this weekend: B+. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Chargers, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
They will need Conner to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Gordon II falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick49
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Steal is underselling it; Omarion Hampton at the Round 2 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick87
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
The board had Jayden Higgins higher than Round 3, Pick 23, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick124
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in slot 124 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
Pick154
Rnd5
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander in the 154th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick160
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
Value with a capital V on Oronde Gadsden II in the 160th overall pick, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick177
Rnd5
Connor Colby
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Connor Colby. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick183
Rnd6
Hayden Conner
A big swing on Hayden Conner at pick 183, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick201
Rnd6
Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong at pick No. 201 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick203
Rnd6
Ollie Gordon II
Taking Ollie Gordon II in pick No. 203 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Jordan Hancock for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick253
Rnd7
Nohl Williams
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nohl Williams well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
