Draft Grade — Commanders

TradesF
FutureB-
Larceny in No. 179 lands the Commanders a D, Rourke and all. The Commanders lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Rourke.
The TeSlaa reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick36
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in slot 36 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick56
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
They paid sticker price for Jayden Higgins in the 56th pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick64
Rnd2
Darien Porter
The board had cheaper options than Darien Porter at Round 2, Pick 32, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick88
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at pick No. 88 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick109
Rnd4
Barrett Carter
They let Barrett Carter come to them and pounced at the 109th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Value with a capital V on Jared Wilson in the Round 4 slot, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick126
Rnd4
Nohl Williams
Nohl Williams at the Round 4 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick128
Rnd4
Dorian Strong
Good price on Dorian Strong in No. 128, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick161
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
Nothing to complain about; Bhayshul Tuten went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick179
Rnd6
Kurtis Rourke
Steal is underselling it; Kurtis Rourke at the 179th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick192
Rnd6
CJ West
Fair-plus on CJ West, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick200
Rnd6
Jarquez Hunter
Jarquez Hunter slid further than he should have, and pick 200 is lovely value for the running back. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick205
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
They did well to land KeAndre Lambert-Smith in pick No. 205, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick216
Rnd6
Jaylen Reed
They robbed the room for Jaylen Reed here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick218
Rnd7
Cam Miller
They read the board right and Cam Miller was the payoff at the Round 7 slot. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick221
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
They talked themselves into Isaac TeSlaa at pick 221, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick245
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
A premium they did not need to pay, Teddye Buchanan a notch or two before his time. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick255
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
A conviction pick on Hayden Conner at pick No. 255 that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
