JGB1969 DRAFTING FOR THEBengals

Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall

ValueB

TradesA+
FutureB+
The Bengals turned the phones into found money: B+. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Bengals were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The Bengals indulged a want in Ivey while a need in wide receiver, linebacker and other spots stayed open. Landing Blue that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They will need Ivey to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a seam-stretching tight end, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku at the 49th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick62
Rnd2
Jared Ivey
A surprising call. With wide receiver, linebacker and other spots still to address, they spent No. 62 on Jared Ivey, an edge rusher they were not short of.
Pick81
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker at the 81st pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick130
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at pick No. 130 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick153
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
By-the-book stuff, O'Donnell Fortune at pick 153 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick170
Rnd5
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
Antwaun Powell-Ryland at slot 170 is money in the bank, a edge rusher taken below his worth. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jaydon Blue
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaydon Blue at the Round 6 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick196
Rnd6
Jack Nelson
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 20, where Jack Nelson graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick208
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joshua Gray. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick228
Rnd7
Addison West
Nice patience on Addison West, who had no business lasting to the 228th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick244
Rnd7
Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson at slot 244 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
