Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
The Commanders finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D+.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Commanders, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Hard to defend, and the D+ reflects that.

Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They are betting Thomas proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

The Ja'Whaun Bentley deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick8 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In pick No. 8 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick25 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In No. 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36 Rnd2 Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 4 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick38 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 38 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick40 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
Fair-plus on Jordan Morgan, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick41 Rnd2 Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Nothing to complain about; Ennis Rakestraw Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick58 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy in the 58th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Kingsley Suamataia. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
They took Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at par in pick 68, which is nothing to complain about. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick78 Rnd3 Gabriel Murphy
They liked Gabriel Murphy enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick79 Rnd3 Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker at No. 79 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick100 Rnd3 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 100 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick109 Rnd4 Maason Smith
By-the-book stuff, Maason Smith at slot 109 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick139 Rnd5 Xavier Thomas
Xavier Thomas at the 139th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick152 Rnd5 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg in the 152nd pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick222 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
No drama and no debate, Frank Gore Jr. went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 2. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
