Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Saints.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Saints did exactly that with Tyler Shough in the Round 4 slot. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Brooks at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In No. 9 they get a lead back with juice at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams in the 40th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick71 Rnd3 Ashton Gillotte
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ashton Gillotte well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick93 Rnd3 Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild in pick No. 93 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick112 Rnd4 Tyler Shough
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tyler Shough in Round 4, Pick 10, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick131 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
The board had Emery Jones Jr. higher than the 131st overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick184 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
No drama and no debate, Jaylen Reed went about where he belonged in slot 184. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick248 Rnd7 Ja'Corey Brooks
They let Ja'Corey Brooks come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 32. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick254 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
They took Teddye Buchanan at par in the 254th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
