FutureB
The Packers fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Kitan Oladapo a full 40 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. On value alone, Robinson makes the weekend a net positive. The Packers indulged a want in Oladapo while a need in cornerback, quarterback and other spots stayed open.
That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In pick 30 they get a blindside protector, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick41
Rnd2
Kamren Kinchens
A clean, defensible pick in No. 41 with a little surplus value in Kamren Kinchens. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick57
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick88
Rnd3
McKinnley Jackson
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on McKinnley Jackson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick91
Rnd3
Darius Robinson
They reached into another round for Darius Robinson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick93
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving at the 93rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick125
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at Round 4, Pick 25 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick126
Rnd4
Kitan Oladapo
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Kitan Oladapo at safety with cornerback, quarterback and other spots open.
Pick128
Rnd4
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright at the Round 4 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick217
Rnd6
J.J. Weaver
They liked J.J. Weaver enough to skip the value, taking him in the 217th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick219
Rnd6
Jeremy Flax
They jumped the gun on Jeremy Flax, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick246
Rnd7
Evan Williams
A real head-scratcher, Evan Williams in pick No. 246 is miles ahead of his ranking. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
