Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA+
The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Maye: B+. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The Bortolini reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In pick No. 4 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick23
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a premier pass rusher, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick27
Rnd1
Tyler Nubin
A premium they did not need to pay, Tyler Nubin a notch or two before his time. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick36
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
This one needs a full-page explanation: Xavier Legette in the 36th overall pick, miles early. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson in slot 75 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick101
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo at the 101st pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick115
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in the Round 4 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick123
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson at pick 123 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick159
Rnd5
Drake Nugent
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Drake Nugent well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick162
Rnd5
Tanor Bortolini
Value said wait; Tanor Bortolini in pick 162 says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
