Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Cowboys checked most of the boxes and earned a B.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Ethan Downs; the Cowboys did not wait, grabbing him 46 spots ahead at the 239th overall pick. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

On value alone, Walker makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a bell-cow for the offense, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick44 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Circle this one: Jalon Walker at the 44th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick76 Rnd3 Tai Felton
They talked themselves into Tai Felton at pick No. 76, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick160 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough at pick 160 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick171 Rnd5 Tommi Hill
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tommi Hill in slot 171. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick174 Rnd5 Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at No. 174 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick204 Rnd6 Joshua Gray
By-the-book stuff, Joshua Gray at pick No. 204 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick211 Rnd6 Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at the 211th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick227 Rnd7 Cam Horsley
Cam Horsley in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick239 Rnd7 Ethan Downs
Ethan Downs at pick 239 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jaylin Smith
A reach for Jaylin Smith in No. 247; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick252 Rnd7 Cody Lindenberg
A straight-up fair deal on Cody Lindenberg at Round 7, Pick 36, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
