HR DRAFTING FOR THECowboys

Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Cowboys let Golden fall and pounced. Final grade: B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Matthew Golden got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at Round 3, Pick 12. No fireworks, but a solid B.
They will need Downs to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In No. 12 they get a potential shutdown corner at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Tyler Warren in pick 44, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick76
Rnd3
Matthew Golden
Matthew Golden at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick149
Rnd5
RJ Harvey
They paid a round early for RJ Harvey in the 149th overall pick, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Shough at the 171st pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
A straight-up fair deal on Jack Kiser at Round 5, Pick 36, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick204
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
By-the-book stuff, Joshua Gray at pick No. 204 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick211
Rnd6
Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson in slot 211 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick239
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
Tonka Hemingway at slot 239 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick247
Rnd7
Ethan Downs
Ethan Downs at the 247th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
