HR DRAFTING FOR THECowboys
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B
ValueA-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Cowboys did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Barryn Sorrell a full 63 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
McCord falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In pick 12 they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot.
Pick44
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at pick No. 44. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick76
Rnd3
Tre Harris
Tre Harris in the Round 3 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick150
Rnd5
Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at slot 150 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick170
Rnd5
Jay Higgins
They paid up for Jay Higgins at the 170th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick172
Rnd5
Kyle McCord
They will replay Kyle McCord at Round 5, Pick 33 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick174
Rnd5
Nohl Williams
No edge and no loss on Nohl Williams in the 174th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick190
Rnd6
Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at the Round 6 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick211
Rnd6
Connor Colby
Connor Colby at No. 211 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick249
Rnd7
Barryn Sorrell
Barryn Sorrell at slot 249 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
