Draft Grade — Cowboys

Good, not great, for the Cowboys: B-. The Cowboys did not so much draft Jasheen Davis as overpay for him, 109 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Jeanty. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a bell-cow for the offense at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
They paid a round early for Jayden Higgins in the 44th overall pick, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick76
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at pick No. 76 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick149
Rnd5
Tyler Shough
The board had Tyler Shough higher than slot 149, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick171
Rnd5
Quincy Riley
A straight-up fair deal on Quincy Riley at the 171st pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim at No. 174 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick204
Rnd6
Caleb Rogers
Caleb Rogers at pick No. 204 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick211
Rnd6
Caleb Ransaw
They did well to land Caleb Ransaw in the 211th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick239
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
Tonka Hemingway at No. 239 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jasheen Davis
Jasheen Davis in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
