HR DRAFTING FOR THECowboys

Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B

TradesB-
FutureB-
The Cowboys kept it disciplined and banked a B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Oronde Gadsden II in pick 149. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
However the rest shakes out, Jeanty at that price is a win they earned. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The back end got a real overhaul.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44
Rnd2
Ashton Jeanty
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Ashton Jeanty in the 44th pick, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick76
Rnd3
Tre Harris
A quiet steal in pick 76: Tre Harris for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick149
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II in Round 5, Pick 11 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick171
Rnd5
Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley at pick No. 171 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jaylen Reed
They paid a round early for Jaylen Reed in slot 174, more than the board wanted. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick204
Rnd6
Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt in slot 204 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick211
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
Joshua Gray at pick No. 211 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick239
Rnd7
Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton at pick 239 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick247
Rnd7
Tyler Batty
Tyler Batty at Round 7, Pick 31 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
