Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Shough should have been long gone. The Cowboys pounced, and earned a B.

Somebody in pick 211 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Tyler Shough, the No. 141 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

They will need Vann to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Travis Hunter
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach the 44th pick and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Pick76 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson at pick No. 76 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149 Rnd5 Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at slot 149 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick171 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune in the 171st overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick174 Rnd5 Nick Nash
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 5, Pick 36 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick204 Rnd6 CJ West
Taking CJ West in pick 204 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick211 Rnd6 Tyler Shough
They robbed the room for Tyler Shough here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick239 Rnd7 Davin Vann
Davin Vann at the 239th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick247 Rnd7 Torricelli Simpkins III
Torricelli Simpkins III at slot 247 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
