Good, not great, for the Cowboys: B. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Davin Vann in the Round 6 slot, a good 65 spots before the room expected him.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Jeanty at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the 12th pick they get a three-down runner at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick44
Rnd2
Tre Harris
Tre Harris in the 44th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick76
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at pick No. 76 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick149
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
No drama and no debate, O'Donnell Fortune went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick171
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
They paid sticker price for Ajani Cornelius in pick 171, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick174
Rnd5
Quincy Riley
By-the-book stuff, Quincy Riley at No. 174 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick204
Rnd6
Davin Vann
They reached a country mile for Davin Vann at No. 204, and the board is aghast. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick211
Rnd6
Simeon Barrow Jr.
They took Simeon Barrow Jr. at par in the 211th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick239
Rnd7
Torricelli Simpkins III
They reached into another round for Torricelli Simpkins III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Ben Yurosek
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ben Yurosek. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
