Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
A-
ValueB

FutureB
The Cowboys won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-. The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jasheen Davis at the Round 7 slot regardless, 116 picks early. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Pegues falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Adding Grover Stewart by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Ashton Jeanty and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the Round 1 slot they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jihaad Campbell in slot 44. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick76
Rnd3
Tre Harris
The board fumbled Tre Harris all the way to the 76th pick, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick117
Rnd4
Will Howard
Nice patience on Will Howard, who had no business lasting to pick 117. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick149
Rnd5
Cobee Bryant
Circle this one: Cobee Bryant at Round 5, Pick 11 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick171
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune at No. 171 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick174
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
Good price on Chase Lundt in the 174th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick204
Rnd6
Torricelli Simpkins III
A wild overpay on Torricelli Simpkins III in Round 6, Pick 28, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick211
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at pick No. 211 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jasheen Davis
They reached a country mile for Jasheen Davis at No. 239, and the board is aghast. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jackson Hawes
A reach for Jackson Hawes in the 247th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
