Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB FutureB-
Alexander should have been long gone. The Cowboys pounced, and earned a B.

Thirty-one other rooms let Zy Alexander slide, and the Cowboys were the ones holding the card at No. 150. Highway robbery.

They will need Higgins to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In slot 12 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick45 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Emeka Egbuka in the 45th pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick76 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
They let Dylan Sampson come to them and pounced at the 76th overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick116 Rnd4 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at No. 116 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick150 Rnd5 Zy Alexander
Taking Zy Alexander in pick 150 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick152 Rnd5 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in the Round 5 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick170 Rnd5 Kurtis Rourke
They robbed the room for Kurtis Rourke here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick172 Rnd5 Logan Brown
Logan Brown in Round 5, Pick 33 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick174 Rnd5 Connor Colby
Connor Colby in pick 174 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick198 Rnd6 CJ West
The board had cheaper options than CJ West at the 198th pick, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick211 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
A tight end of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 33 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick234 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in the 234th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick246 Rnd7 Oluwafemi Oladejo
A slide stopped in pick No. 246, with Oluwafemi Oladejo worth more than the price. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick249 Rnd7 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
You do not let a wide receiver like Dont'e Thornton Jr. reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
