Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Cowboys for Castro: B-.

Somebody in the 174th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Sebastian Castro, the No. 93 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

Sorrell has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In the 12th overall pick they get a bell-cow for the offense, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick44 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
Alfred Collins at pick 44 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick76 Rnd3 Jalen Royals
Jalen Royals is a better player than pick No. 76 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick150 Rnd5 Cody Simon
The board had Cody Simon higher than slot 150, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick170 Rnd5 Miles Frazier
They left a pile of value on the table to take Miles Frazier this early at the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick172 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
Tyler Shough in Round 5, Pick 33 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Pick174 Rnd5 Sebastian Castro
Sebastian Castro at the 174th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick190 Rnd6 Dorian Strong
Taking Dorian Strong in No. 190 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick227 Rnd7 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in pick 227 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick230 Rnd7 Barryn Sorrell
A real head-scratcher, Barryn Sorrell in No. 230 is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick249 Rnd7 Tonka Hemingway
Tonka Hemingway at Round 7, Pick 31 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
