Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Cowboys did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 112 spots for Jasheen Davis, and value like that does not grow back.

Cornelius at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Ashton Jeanty
In the Round 1 slot they get a featured back at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick44 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Tyler Warren in the 44th overall pick, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick76 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Tre Harris in No. 76 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick150 Rnd5 Darius Alexander
They robbed the room for Darius Alexander here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick170 Rnd5 Jack Kiser
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jack Kiser well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick172 Rnd5 Ajani Cornelius
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 172 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick174 Rnd5 Willie Lampkin
They paid sticker price for Willie Lampkin in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick190 Rnd6 Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at the 190th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick211 Rnd6 Jacob Parrish
Jacob Parrish in pick 211 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jasheen Davis
A big swing on Jasheen Davis at No. 249, well ahead of any board in the building. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
