Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on Walker: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Jalon Walker had no business being available in Round 5, Pick 31, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

They are betting Jefferson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

The weekend tilted hard toward the defense. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Abdul Carter
In the Round 1 slot they get juice off the edge, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Pick46 Rnd2 Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren at pick 46 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
Pick76 Rnd3 Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in the 76th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick117 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at slot 117 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick150 Rnd5 Shemar Turner
They robbed the room for Shemar Turner here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick170 Rnd5 Jalon Walker
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in the 170th overall pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick172 Rnd5 Tyler Cooper
Tyler Cooper in No. 172 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174 Rnd5 Sebastian Castro
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Sebastian Castro in Round 5, Pick 35, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick190 Rnd6 Billy Bowman Jr.
Circle this one: Billy Bowman Jr. at Round 6, Pick 12 is a fall that decides a draft. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick211 Rnd6 Amari Kight
Amari Kight in pick 211 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick244 Rnd7 KJ Jefferson
A big swing on KJ Jefferson at the 244th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick249 Rnd7 Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in No. 249 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
