HR DRAFTING FOR THECowboys

Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B
ValueB

FutureB-
The Cowboys robbed the room for Schwesinger. Final grade: B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Carson Schwesinger got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at slot 172.
If Jefferson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Matthew Golden
Matthew Golden at pick 44 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick76
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
Somehow Alfred Collins was still sitting there in pick No. 76, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick150
Rnd5
Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick170
Rnd5
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at slot 170 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick172
Rnd5
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at the 172nd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
They will replay Oronde Gadsden II at No. 174 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick190
Rnd6
Jordan Hancock
The board had cheaper options than Jordan Hancock at the 190th pick, and it noticed. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick211
Rnd6
Nohl Williams
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nohl Williams in slot 211, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick249
Rnd7
KJ Jefferson
Value said wait; KJ Jefferson in the 249th overall pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
