FutureB
The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Maye: B. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Bears' quarterback, full stop. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Reaching for Eboigbe left real value on the table behind him. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting Worthy where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Drake Maye
Drake Maye in pick No. 5 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick21
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector, even if it was a touch early. A real need, handled.
Pick27
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
In pick 27 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
They paid a round early for Cooper Beebe in No. 38, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Pick69
Rnd3
Xavier Worthy
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Xavier Worthy in the 69th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in slot 75 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick106
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in the 106th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick107
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
They talked themselves into Justin Eboigbe at Round 4, Pick 7, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick122
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
A real head-scratcher, Tykee Smith in Round 4, Pick 22 is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
