Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B

FutureB-
The Steelers robbed the room for Hampton. Final grade: B. You could see the war room lean forward. Omarion Hampton at slot 56 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. The Williams pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In slot 30 they get a wrecking ball inside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick56
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 56 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick83
Rnd3
Savion Williams
A premium they did not need to pay, Savion Williams a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick123
Rnd4
Will Howard
Will Howard in the 123rd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick156
Rnd5
Mello Dotson
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Mello Dotson in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
