Draft Grade — Jets
Overall B

The Jets let Fortune fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

The rest of the league will want that one back. O'Donnell Fortune tumbling to the Jets in Round 5, Pick 7 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

Reaching for Reed left real value on the table behind him. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Job largely done: quarterback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick42 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Emeka Egbuka in the 42nd overall pick, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick58 Rnd2 Marcus Mbow
Marcus Mbow at pick 58 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick89 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo in the 89th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jalen Milroe
Value with a capital V on Jalen Milroe in slot 109, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick146 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
They will replay O'Donnell Fortune at pick No. 146 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick157 Rnd5 Jaylen Reed
A wild overpay on Jaylen Reed in No. 157, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick188 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins at the Round 6 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick209 Rnd6 R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens in Round 6, Pick 31 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
