Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesC+ FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Chiefs, and a B- to prove it.

The Chiefs put a flag in the ground for Hayden Hatten, 29 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. That Robinson pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In No. 25 they get juice off the edge, and a steal at that.
Pick62 Rnd2 Mekhi Wingo
A reach on Mekhi Wingo in Round 2, Pick 30; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick89 Rnd3 Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter in pick 89 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick125 Rnd4 Mike Sainristil
They left a pile of value on the table to take Mike Sainristil this early at the 125th overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick167 Rnd5 Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at slot 167 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jack Nelson
They paid sticker price for Jack Nelson in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick174 Rnd5 Zy Alexander
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Zy Alexander in the 174th pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick175 Rnd5 Cody Schrader
No edge and no loss on Cody Schrader in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick203 Rnd6 Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson at the 203rd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick246 Rnd7 Hayden Hatten
Hayden Hatten at pick 246 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
