Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureA+
The Bears fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A-. Nobody had Braelon Allen this high, and it is not close. The Bears reached 36 spots to get him at pick No. 123. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The Braswell value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In the 8th overall pick they get a security blanket over the middle. More want than need.
Pick9
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In No. 9 they get juice off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
The board had Brian Thomas Jr. higher than slot 36, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick43
Rnd2
Kalen King
Good price on Kalen King in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick47
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
Kris Jenkins in pick 47 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick67
Rnd3
Chris Braswell
Value with a capital V on Chris Braswell in pick No. 67, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick75
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
No drama and no debate, Christian Haynes went about where he belonged in No. 75. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick103
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at the 103rd pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick106
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tykee Smith at pick No. 106. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick117
Rnd4
Malik Washington
Malik Washington in pick 117 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick123
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Braelon Allen. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick234
Rnd7
Ryan Watts
No edge and no loss on Ryan Watts in slot 234; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
