Mendoza is the Raiders' new face under center. Grade: B. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Fernando Mendoza is the Raiders' quarterback, full stop.
The cost of the Kearney reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Rivers value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
By-the-book stuff, Fernando Mendoza at slot 1 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick47
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick78
Rnd3
Carter Smith
A conviction pick on Carter Smith at Round 3, Pick 14 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick102
Rnd4
Chandler Rivers
Value with a capital V on Chandler Rivers in pick No. 102, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick131
Rnd4
Drew Allar
A premium they did not need to pay, Drew Allar a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick135
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels in the 135th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick178
Rnd5
Jaydn Ott
The board had Jaydn Ott higher than the 178th overall pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick181
Rnd6
Eric McAlister
A reasonable price with a little left over, Eric McAlister in pick 181. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick184
Rnd6
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at the 184th pick is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick219
Rnd7
Roderick Kearney
A big swing on Roderick Kearney at No. 219, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
