The Chiefs cashed the board's mistake on Edwards: B+. The Chiefs spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Donovan Edwards, the No. 189 name on the board, in pick 246. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Luther Burden III
In slot 23 they get a matchup problem out wide, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick45
Rnd2
Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks at pick No. 45 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick50
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Taking Colston Loveland in the 50th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick101
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
Circle this one: Donovan Jackson at No. 101 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick246
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
They will replay Donovan Edwards at the 246th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
