A costly weekend of dealing drags the Patriots to a C-. The Patriots went off the board in a big way for Ethan Downs, 137 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Knight Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
If Travis Hunter and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
