FutureB
The Lions let Lew fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+. You build a draft on nights like this. Connor Lew had no business being available in Round 3, Pick 27, and the Lions did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. World has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In pick 26 they get the heartbeat of the defense. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick50
Rnd2
Christen Miller
The board had Christen Miller higher than the 50th pick, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick91
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Circle this one: Connor Lew at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick118
Rnd4
Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad at the 118th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick126
Rnd4
Isaiah World
Isaiah World at No. 126 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick155
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
A conviction pick on Aamil Wagner at Round 5, Pick 17 that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick186
Rnd6
J'Mari Taylor
J'Mari Taylor is a better player than slot 186 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick203
Rnd6
Taylen Green
Taylen Green at pick No. 203 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Pick212
Rnd6
Keyshaun Elliott
No drama and no debate, Keyshaun Elliott went about where he belonged in slot 212. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick220
Rnd7
Jadon Canady
Jadon Canady slipping to the 220th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick222
Rnd7
Isaiah Nwokobia
Isaiah Nwokobia at pick No. 222 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
