The Commanders bet the future on McCarthy. The board says B-.

The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped wide receiver, which is a strange place to end up.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Lassiter. The Proctor reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
