Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B+
ValueC- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureB+
The Jaguars won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Jaguars spent Round 6, Pick 20 on Sam Hartman, a name the board had a full 88 spots lower. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The Hardy value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The veteran additions, Zack Moss chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Max Melton
In the 27th pick they get an island corner, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick48 Rnd2 Malachi Corley
No edge and no loss on Malachi Corley in pick No. 48; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick96 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at pick 96 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick115 Rnd4 Mekhi Wingo
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mekhi Wingo. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick117 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
A big swing on Tommy Eichenberg at Round 4, Pick 17, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick152 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
Nothing to complain about; Tykee Smith went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Pick195 Rnd6 Sam Hartman
Value said wait; Sam Hartman in slot 195 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick200 Rnd6 Javontae Jean-Baptiste
Javontae Jean-Baptiste at the 200th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick211 Rnd6 Daequan Hardy
A tidy bit of business in No. 211, where Daequan Hardy graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
