Tk DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers let Nolen fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. Somebody in pick 43 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The 49ers sat still while Walter Nolen, the No. 20 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The Bassa pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Armand Membou
In pick No. 11 they get a building block for the line at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Walter Nolen in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75
Rnd3
Elic Ayomanor
Nice patience on Elic Ayomanor, who had no business lasting to the 75th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick100
Rnd3
Jeffrey Bassa
A big swing on Jeffrey Bassa at pick 100, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick113
Rnd4
Terrance Ferguson
No edge and no loss on Terrance Ferguson in slot 113; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick138
Rnd4
Bhayshul Tuten
Bhayshul Tuten in Round 4, Pick 36 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147
Rnd5
Andres Borregales
Andres Borregales in the 147th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick160
Rnd5
Tommi Hill
Tommi Hill at No. 160 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
