Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The 49ers spent the 148th overall pick on Graham Mertz, a name the board had a full 200 spots lower.

The Winston Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.

They will answer for taking specialist early while running back, tight end and other spots went begging. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
