FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Seahawks, and a B to prove it. The tape said wait; the Seahawks did not. Clay Webb went at the 187th overall pick, a good 64 picks before the board was ready. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
On value alone, Dotson makes the weekend a net positive. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the linebacker spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick50
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
JT Tuimoloau at pick No. 50 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick79
Rnd3
Gunnar Helm
The board had Gunnar Helm higher than No. 79, and the tight end fell to them anyway. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick82
Rnd3
Donovan Jackson
No edge and no loss on Donovan Jackson in pick 82; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick83
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
By-the-book stuff, Denzel Burke at slot 83 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick137
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Somehow Jared Wilson was still sitting there in Round 4, Pick 36, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick173
Rnd5
Mello Dotson
Taking Mello Dotson in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick187
Rnd6
Clay Webb
This one needs a full-page explanation: Clay Webb in pick 187, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick212
Rnd6
Jackson Hawes
A real head-scratcher, Jackson Hawes in No. 212 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick236
Rnd7
Ricky White III
Ricky White III in slot 236 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
