MG DRAFTING FOR THECowboys
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Cowboys let Neal fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. You build a draft on nights like this. Devin Neal had no business being available in Round 6, Pick 34, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The cost of the Rivers reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
They robbed the room for Omarion Hampton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell in the 76th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick148
Rnd5
Barrett Carter
They barely believed it either: Barrett Carter still on the board at pick No. 148. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick168
Rnd5
Billy Bowman Jr.
Taking Billy Bowman Jr. in the 168th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick170
Rnd5
Nazir Stackhouse
A premium they did not need to pay, Nazir Stackhouse a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick173
Rnd5
Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton in Round 5, Pick 36 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick186
Rnd6
Connor Colby
Connor Colby at pick 186 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick209
Rnd6
Devin Neal
Steal is underselling it; Devin Neal at slot 209 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick248
Rnd7
Jalen Rivers
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jalen Rivers well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
