Draft Grade — Raiders

FutureA+
The Raiders lost the trade table, and the C tells the story. The war room fell hard for Dillon Gabriel, and it showed at No. 38: 79 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.
They banked enough surplus on Skattebo to cover a lot of smaller sins. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Raiders indulged a want in Schwesinger while a need in edge rusher and interior defensive lineman stayed open.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Zy Alexander
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zy Alexander in slot 33, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Booker. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick38
Rnd2
Dillon Gabriel
A wild overpay on Dillon Gabriel in the 38th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick65
Rnd3
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in pick No. 65 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick72
Rnd3
Jalon Walker
Circle this one: Jalon Walker at the 72nd overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick93
Rnd3
Colston Loveland
Taking Colston Loveland in No. 93 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick103
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
Good price on Tez Johnson in Round 4, Pick 2, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138
Rnd4
Carson Schwesinger
A want over a need in the 138th pick: Carson Schwesinger adds a linebacker while edge rusher and interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
Pick177
Rnd6
Kyle McCord
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kyle McCord well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick212
Rnd6
Seth McLaughlin
By-the-book stuff, Seth McLaughlin at pick No. 212 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick216
Rnd7
Nohl Williams
Value said wait; Nohl Williams in pick 216 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick217
Rnd7
Clay Webb
A straight-up fair deal on Clay Webb at the 217th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick245
Rnd7
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
