The tape said wait; the Texans did not. J.J. Weaver went at pick No. 164, a good 169 picks before the board was ready. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.

That Singleton pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

The veteran additions, Garrett Wilson chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.
