FutureB-
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Steelers a B. The Steelers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Belton has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Noel. With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Terrion Arnold
In pick No. 28 they get a potential shutdown corner. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
JT Tuimoloau
They paid sticker price for JT Tuimoloau in the 34th pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick50
Rnd2
Javon Foster
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Javon Foster. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick74
Rnd3
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A curious use of Round 3, Pick 10. Quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Jackson Powers-Johnson did not.
Pick100
Rnd3
Beau Brade
A conviction pick on Beau Brade at the Round 3 slot that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick110
Rnd4
Junior Colson
They went early on Junior Colson in the 110th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick123
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Brenden Rice at No. 123. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick196
Rnd6
Anthony Belton
This one needs a full-page explanation: Anthony Belton in pick 196, miles early. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jaylin Noel
Jaylin Noel in the Round 7 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
