Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall B+
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The Broncos worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Broncos reached some 41 spots for Josh Proctor, and value like that does not grow back. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Broncos indulged a want in Jones while a need in tight end stayed open. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick34 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
A tidy little value on J.J. McCarthy in slot 34, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick56 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Payton Wilson. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick75 Rnd3 Austin Booker
They took Austin Booker at par in pick No. 75, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick76 Rnd3 Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. at No. 76 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick93 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in pick 93 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick95 Rnd3 Cam Hart
Cam Hart at the 95th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick101 Rnd4 Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving is a better player than slot 101 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick103 Rnd4 Beaux Limmer
They left a pile of value on the table to take Beaux Limmer this early at the Round 4 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick121 Rnd4 Johnny Wilson
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in pick No. 121; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick122 Rnd4 Christian Jones
The board had cheaper options than Christian Jones at No. 122, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Pick128 Rnd4 Ainias Smith
They jumped the gun on Ainias Smith, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick136 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 4, Pick 36 on Jarrian Jones with tight end unsolved.
Pick144 Rnd5 Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan in the 144th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick145 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
By-the-book stuff, Luke McCaffrey at pick 145 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick147 Rnd5 Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern at No. 147 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick148 Rnd5 Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau in the 148th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174 Rnd5 Tahj Washington
A reach on Tahj Washington in pick No. 174; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick203 Rnd6 Josh Proctor
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Josh Proctor. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick207 Rnd6 Joe Milton III
Nothing to complain about; Joe Milton III went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
