The Broncos found their guy under center in McCarthy: B. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Broncos spent their marquee pick on J.J. McCarthy, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
That linebacker hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is McGlothern.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
J.J. McCarthy
In No. 30 they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick73
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie at the 73rd overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick76
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
Good price on Patrick Paul in pick 76, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick84
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
No drama and no debate, Michael Hall Jr. went about where he belonged in slot 84. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick87
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
A conviction pick on Christian Mahogany at the 87th pick that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick88
Rnd3
Gabriel Murphy
Gabriel Murphy at Round 3, Pick 25 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick93
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
Fair-plus on Bucky Irving, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick102
Rnd4
Cam Hart
Cam Hart in pick No. 102 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick121
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
They paid a round early for Ben Sinnott in the 121st overall pick, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick136
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Johnny Wilson at pick 136 is the proof. The roster fit checks out.
Pick145
Rnd5
Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith at the Round 5 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick147
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
Mason McCormick in No. 147 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick176
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Dwight McGlothern at Round 6, Pick 1 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick203
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley at the 203rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
