FutureA+
Davis should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a A-. You build a draft on nights like this. Tyler Davis had no business being available in Round 4, Pick 32, and the Bears did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A-.
Every board in the league had Powers-Johnson lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Javon Hargrave pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In slot 5 they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick29
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick37
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
A top-tier edge rusher at a bargain, Chop Robinson in Round 2, Pick 5, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick68
Rnd3
Jackson Powers-Johnson
A real head-scratcher, Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 68th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick92
Rnd3
Malik Washington
Malik Washington slipping to No. 92 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jalen McMillan
Jalen McMillan in pick No. 104 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick132
Rnd4
Tyler Davis
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Tyler Davis reach the 132nd overall pick and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick141
Rnd5
Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at pick 141 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
