Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
C-
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesF
FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Seahawks to a C-. Somebody took the Seahawks to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Bishop pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots. The veteran additions, Brian O'Neill chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
They went 2 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
If Byron Murphy II and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Byron Murphy II
In the 16th overall pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick42
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on J.J. McCarthy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick78
Rnd3
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks in the 78th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick117
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Cole Bishop at safety with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots open.
