Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureB
The Seahawks did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

Nobody else had Baylor Cupp anywhere near slot 257. The Seahawks did, by 142 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

The Seahawks indulged a want in Smith while a need in wide receiver and running back stayed open. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.

That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Troy Fautanu
In slot 30 they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick62 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
No drama and no debate, Payton Wilson went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick78 Rnd3 Junior Colson
Nothing to complain about; Junior Colson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick97 Rnd3 Maason Smith
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went DT-EDGE with Maason Smith while clear needs at wide receiver and running back sat open.
Pick119 Rnd4 Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis at pick No. 119 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick131 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams at the 131st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick151 Rnd5 Cam Hart
A tidy bit of business in the 151st pick, where Cam Hart graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick160 Rnd5 Kitan Oladapo
A conviction pick on Kitan Oladapo at slot 160 that the board grades a round light. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick170 Rnd5 Andrew Coker
They liked Andrew Coker enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 5 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick171 Rnd5 Eric Watts
They reached into another round for Eric Watts, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick178 Rnd6 Ethan Driskell
They jumped the gun on Ethan Driskell, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick194 Rnd6 Gabe Hall
A real head-scratcher, Gabe Hall in pick 194 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick233 Rnd7 Chad Lindberg
Chad Lindberg in No. 233 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick257 Rnd7 Baylor Cupp
Baylor Cupp at Round 7, Pick 39 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
