Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Commanders.

There is reaching, and then there is Will Shipley at the 100th overall pick. The Commanders jumped the board by 29 and dared it to prove them wrong. The bottom line is a respectable B.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Newton at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

In pick 2 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell in the 36th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick40 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton at the 40th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick67 Rnd3 Josh Newton
The board had Josh Newton higher than slot 67, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick100 Rnd3 Will Shipley
Will Shipley in No. 100 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick102 Rnd4 Blake Fisher
Nothing to complain about; Blake Fisher went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick141 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III in No. 141 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.

They took AJ Barner at par in Round 6, Pick 6, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.

Zakhari Franklin in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
